Years ago the trip from a Regional to a Major was in the 4-6 year range. Years 1-3 were as a First Officer at a Regional. Year 4-6 were as a Captain. Then after around 6 years a pilot would apply and hope to be hired by a major. Total hours were 5000+ with 2000+ Turbine PIC.

That was then. Currently no legacy airlines in the United States are hiring. When/if they ever hire again the minimums are anyones guess. The same goes for the regional airlines. I was hired with 560 hours total time....next time around it will likely be higher.

Hi, just wondering how long does it take to go from regional to Legacy airlines where they fly like A320's and 737's ? A 777 pilot told me 4-6 years it that true? If you don't know how long can you at least tell me how many hours.. Thank You! blue skies!
